The First Blanket is a hand-knitted baby blanket made to be there from the very beginning — laid in a moses basket, wrapped around a newborn, or kept close through the earliest days at home. It is knitted by hand in London to generous newborn proportions.
We worked the blanket in a soft, even knit with neatly finished edges, so it feels substantial without ever being heavy. The warm oatmeal tone carries natural flecks of colour, giving the surface a quiet depth that suits any nursery.
A blanket is often the piece that stays longest — folded at the end of a cot, carried to a grandparent’s house, and eventually kept in a drawer long after it is outgrown. We made this one to earn that kind of keeping.
Like everything we make, it is knitted to order in small numbers, so each blanket carries the small, honest variations of true hand-work.

- Hand wash cool (below 30°C) with a mild, wool-friendly detergent
- Do not wring or scrub — press gently between towels to release excess water
- Reshape by hand and dry flat, away from direct heat and sunlight
- Do not tumble dry, do not dry clean, and iron the ribbing only if needed
- Store folded rather than hung, so the knit keeps its shape
- Use a gentle de-pilling comb occasionally to keep the surface smooth
